Description

Essential VIII describes the DNP graduate’s development of expertise and advanced knowledge in one area of a specialty nursing practice, while practicing within the larger domain of nursing. Cultivated assessment skills include the application of biophysical, psychosocial, behavioral, sociopolitical, cultural, economic, and nursing science as it relates to the area of specialization. The DNP graduate is prepared to assume a variety of differentiated specialty roles including therapeutic relationships with patients and other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes, mentor others in the nursing profession, and support legal and regulatory issues.

DNP VIII Essentials achievement:

Achieving this Essential occurred by casting a wide net. The DNP project embodied design and implementation from nursing science. At its core, it was about developing partnerships with patients, their caregivers and their care providers across the continuum of care for the sole purpose of improving care delivery outcomes and supporting value-based care initiatives. Introducing efforts that cross the continuum of care required specialty knowledge of the complex care delivery system. To create a new care delivery model, collaboration with key stakeholders was paramount. It required application of leadership knowledge, skills and abilities to guide and mentor the intervention team. Through this latter action and applying the PDSA methodology, standard work was generated and improved upon. The knowledge acquired during this implementation was disseminated across all stakeholders to promote sustainability, share and spread. Summative information shared included population impact, provider impact, fiscal impact, and ethical considerations for ongoing reflect and policy change efforts.
